Leading her competition through every step, Power And Grace maintained control to the finish to win the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot on Tuesday (Nov. 24) at Flamboro Downs.

Driver Brett MacDonald moved Power And Grace to the point from post 4 while Bastiano secured the pocket heading to a :28.1 first quarter. Power And Grace faced little pressure to a :58 half and to three-quarters in 1:27.3, where The Fixer ranged first over into second but raced two lengths off the leader. Into the stretch, The Fixer narrowed on Power And Grace’s advantage, but the five-year-old Holiday Road mare held a three-quarter length margin to the finish of a 1:57.1 mile. Race-favourite In Secret closed for third.

Owned by Hartel Maintenance Inc. and Lormer McClure, Power And Grace won her ninth race from 26 starts this season and her 23rd from 71 overall, earning $179,635. Ronald MacDonald conditions the $10.30 winner.

Firebby A took the front and also went coast to coast in her contest, scoring a 1:56.2 victory in the $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace.

Taking the field by the quarter in :28.3, Firebby A faced pressure moving to a :58.3 half as Custard Lite advanced first over from fourth, and continued to dig into the pacesetter approaching three-quarters in 1:27.2. With the inside advantage, Firebby A gained slight separation from Custard Lite around the final turn and withstood his final lunge to win by three-quarter lengths. Manhattan Night, off a pocket trip, finished third.

An eight-year-old mare by Courage Under Fire, Firebby A won her fifth race from 25 starts this season and her 28th from 115 overall, earning $280,083. Doug McNair drove the $4.20 winner for owner David Kryway and trainer Taylor Fritz.
