An ‘Ultimate’ Afternoon At The CDP

Sunday afternoon (Nov. 24) was a day of celebrations all around for the Ultimate Stable of New Brunswick at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

Woodmere Ideal Art upset the heavily favoured Rose Run Quest in the $3,000 Preferred Pace, while new trainer Dawn Hubbard recorded the first win of her career with Ultimatelyhandsome. Both horses are owned by the Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, NB.

In the Preferred Pace, favourite Rose Run Quest (who was driven by Marc Campbell) left hard to command the front and post early fractions of :28.3 and :58 while Woodmere Ideal Art (Jason Hughes) sat on his back in the two-hole. Creepin (David Dowling) launched a first-over attack on Rose Run Quest at the 1:28.1 three quarters, but it was Woodmere Ideal Art who fired through the passing lane to hit the wire first in 1:57.1. Rose Run Quest finished second, while Burn Out Hanover (Gilles Barrieau) finished third. Sifroi Melanson trains Woodmere Ideal Art.

Ultimatelyhandsome handed Hubbard her first win as a conditioner in Race 9 of the program also with Hughes in the bike, stopping the clock in 1:58.

Knockout Punch recorded his third consecutive win for the Marvyn Webster stable. The Westwardho Hanover three-year-old put together a 2:01 victory for owner Valleygrove Farms of Kensington as the first part of a David Dowling driving triple. Dowling also won with Junebugs Baby in 2:003 for trainer Chris MacKay of French River and with newcomer Lil Beau Duke in 2:00.1 from the Elton Millar stable of Tyne Valley.
