Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has announced the makeup of a horse racing advisory commission that has been tasked with recommending legislative actions and regulatory improvements for the state industry.

According to an article by Crain’s Detroit Business, the commission, which falls under the umbrella of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, will be chaired by Don Ryker, who is the owner of the equine veterinary practice Don Ryker DMV and Associates.

Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association President Thomas Barrett is part of the commission, as is Michigan Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association president George Kutlenios.

The commission is rounded out by Northville Downs Operations Manager Mike Carlo, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Assistant State Veterinarian Nancy Frank, and Professor Frank Nickels of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Each member of the commission has been named to a four-year term that will conclude in the fall of 2020.
