Beer And Racing, In Perfect Harmony

Horse racing and beer drinking have combined, with proceeds from craft suds being directed towards a charity that aids members of the racing industry.

An article by the Gazette & Herald explains that Howard Kinder’s enterprise, the Horsetown Beer Company, has been finding success selling four fine ales with horse racing themes. Five pence from every bottle and pint sold goes toward ‘Racing Welfare,’ which, according to the piece, provides help and support to anyone that is working, or has worked in the Thoroughbred horse racing and breeding industry.

The company, which is located in Malton, North Yorkshire, in England, has found success with its four ales – Whitewall Golden Bitter, Malton Races Dark Bitter, Highfield Gallops Apple Cider and Blink Bonny Lager.

Kinder set up the company this past summer and immediately found strong support for ‘Horsetown’s offerings. "All our growth has come from the local community and we also have the support of a number of local trainers," he was quoted as saying.

"All the beers are on sale in the local pubs, bars and shops, and we also have a number of outlets in the surrounding areas that sell our products, as well," he added.

"From my research we are the first company in the UK to produce horse-racing beers,” said Kinder, “and I am pleased to say through our sales I expect to donate in the region of £4,000 annually to Racing Welfare."
