Rideau Preferred To Montreal Phil

Montreal Phil took matters into his own hands en route to an impressive victory in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway

Gord Brown found himself parked to the quarter pole in :26.4 with Montreal Phil, but shortly past that marker the tandem was positioned on the lead. And it turned out to be a position they wouldn’t relinquish.

The seven-year-old son of Blissfull Hall-Matter Of Style served up middle panels of :55.3 and 1:24 before scooting home in :29.4 to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Pieraz in 1:53.4. Bolero Charles enjoyed a ground-saving trip and finished third.

Sent off at odds of 4-1, Montreal Phil won for the 30th time in his career and pushed his lifetime earnings past $250,000. The gelding is owned by Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc of Hudson, QC.
