Zip Car and Russian Kisses engaged in a heated stretch duel in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace on Sunday night at Flamboro Downs, but neither mare could get past the other and they were ultimately inseparable at the wire.

Zip Car ($3.20) and driver Billy Davis Jr. retook the lead after the :27.2 opening panel and fronted the field through middle splits of :56.1 and 1:25.2 while Russian Kisses ($2.30) and owner/driver Robert Shepherd followed the cover of Twilight Seelster and then fanned wide down the backstretch to move up alongside Zip Car. The four-year-old mares battled neck and neck for the final quarter of a mile and hit the wire together in a dead-heat for the win in 1:54.4. Twilight Seelster finished nearly five lengths behind in third.

Zip Car is owned by trainer Heather Toll and Mark Beaven and recorded her ninth win in 25 starts this year while the Isabelle Darveau-trained Russian Kisses notched her 15th triumph in 36 outings this year.

In the $11,000 Preferred 2 for horses and geldings, early leaver Cluster Hanover ($17.80) regained the lead at the half and rebuffed the challenge of J M Jet Set under urging from driver Anthony MacDonald en route a 1:54.3 victory. Barry Treen trains the sophomore son of Badlands Hanover, who now has back-to-back Flamboro wins, for owners Jeffrey and Debbie Elchuk of Surrey, B.C. The quick-closing Goldstar Badlands came on for second over J M Jet Set.

Alan Fair's Justa Camilion ($38.90) scooted along the pylons from the pocket spot when the favoured leaders, Get Around Town and Mach Pride, hooked wheels around the final turn and went on to win the $7,000 Preferred 3 in 1:57.4 with Tyler Moore catch-driving.
