After a successful summer stint racing in the New York Sire Stakes, sophomore pacing filly Avyanna has returned to the circuit at Woodbine Mohawk Park and will target competition in Ontario heading into her four-year-old year.
Back in the stable of Hall of Famer Paul MacDonell after a few months of rest, Avyanna tuned up for pari-mutuel action in the first of five qualifiers at Mohawk on Friday, Nov. 22. The three-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe out of Saulsbrook Alana — a sister to current Mohawk top class campaigner Saulsbrook Victor — made every call a winning one over the Mohawk oval on a less than ideal Friday morning with a wire-to-wire 1:55.4 score. Woodmere Delta (James MacDonald) followed to finish second, nearly five lengths back.
Hailee Currie of Rocky Point, P.E.I. owns Avyanna, a five-time winner with a mark of 1:52 and more than $160,000 in career earnings.
