Green Day and Southwind Vavoom battled right to the wire in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs, with the latter getting the upper hand
in the closing strides.
With Bob McClure at the helm, Southwind Vavoom was allowed to settle into the four-hole while Chewey and Chick N Tell battled to the quarter-pole in :28.1. Chick N Tell forged to the top before coming under immediate pressure from Green Day, who shot from third to first. Green Day led the field to the half in :57.3, but he found himself under the gun in the third quarter compliments of a backstretch-brushing Southwind Vavoom.
Just a nose separated the square gaiters at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.3, and it was more of the same at the head of the lane. Southwind Vavoom used a :29.1 closing panel to gain the upper hand in the closing strides en route to defeating a dead game Green Day by a head in 1:56.4. Chewey re-emerged to finish a fast-closing third in the nine-horse affair.
Lormer McClure trains the five-year-old son of Self Possessed-Vie Agra Works for his father, John McClure of Georgetown, ON. The victory was the seventh of the season and the 18th lifetime tally for the career winner of $187,500.
