The betting public didn’t give Putnam Mackenzie much of a chance to win Tuesday’s $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, but that didn’t stop her from turning in a dominant performance.

Sent off at odds of 70-1 in the eight-horse affair, Putnam Mackenzie was marched right to the engine by driver J.R. Plante. Together they led the field through first-half fractions of :27.3 and :57 before turning on the jets in the backstretch. The mare threw down a :27.3 third panel to get the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3, and he :29.2 kicker was good enough to earn her the two-length triumph over Pink Kangaroo in 1:55. Thatll Be Franny rounded out the top three finishers in the featured tilt.

Dan Creighton trains the five-year-old daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Royas Bambi for the Putnam Training Centre Ltd of Mossley, ON. It was her fifth win of the season and the 20th of her career. The lion’s share of Tuesday’s purse lifted this year’s earnings to $71,330 while her lifetime stash climbed over $322,000.
