Up and coming reinswoman Katie Miller sent P L Betterway down the road to win the $1,225 Winners Over Pace featured on Sunday's harness racing card at Truro Raceway, while Tammy MacKay won the afternoon's Mildred Williams Driving Challenge

Leaving from the inside post position in the featured finale, 19-year-old Miller sent P L Betterway to the top and never looked back en route to the 1:58.3 triumph. Cereal Lover (Ryan Ellis) followed from the pocket to finish second two and a half lengths behind and Rumble Cheeks (Ernest Laffin) finished nearly six lengths back after a long first over journey.
Miller recently took over the training duties of the six-year-old Camluck-Caitlyns Way mare for owners Neal and Jonah Moase of Cornwall, P.E.I., and Edwin Moase of Little York, P.E.I. The win was P L Betterway's fourth of the season in 24 starts.
Truro Raceway hosted a Mildred Williams Driving Challenge on Sunday, which helped raise funds for The Short's Lake Dragon Boat Team and the Maritime Standardbred Pleasure Horse Association. Four women and four men faced off in the four race competition with Tammy MacKay earning the most points to finish in first place, followed by Carl Isenor and Miller.
MacKay won a division of the Mildred Williams Driving Challenge with Niamotion for trainer Emmons Ralph MacKay. The other winners were: Dontlooknow and Miller for conditioner George Rennison; Lifes Win and Darren Crowe for trainer-owner Greg Bailey; and Bruce Almighty and Clare MacDonald for trainer-owner Alex Sutherland Jr.
The women ended with a total of 75 points while the men finished the competition with 70 points.
