A touch of class relief was all Top Expectations needed to regain her winning touch in her Monday evening assignment at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Top Expectations made a break two weeks ago in the Preferred Trot and as a result went home empty handed, but she bounced back in a big way in Monday’s main event.
Filion put the pedal to the metal with the four-year-old daughter in the $25,000 affair, and she worked her way through fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26.1 before storming home in :28 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over On The Ropes in 1:54.1. Rounding out the Trifecta ticket was Free Willy Hanover.
Daniel Plouffe of Bromont, QC owns the four-year-old daughter of Cantab Hall-Exceed Expectations, who hails from the barn of veteran trainer Ben Baillargeon. He watched the mare improve this year’s record to 8-2-1 from 19 starts with the victory. The 14-time winner has banked close to $500,000 to date.
Trainer Ben Baillargeon recently surpassed a major milestone. The Quebec native went over $40 million in career earnings thanks to a Saturday night score with PL Jill.
The 2019 campaign marks the first time since 2012 that Baillargeon banked in excess of $2 million. His 94 victories put him in position to reach the century mark for wins for the second consecutive season.
