Odds-on Charmed Life (Yannick Gingras, $3.50) slapped the boys silly yet again on Sunday afternoon (November 19), as she won the $40,000 Open Trot at a windy Yonkers Raceway.
With ‘only’ a seven-horse field, the weekly trotting feature was contested at the distance of one mile.
After having raced first-up a week ago, Charmed Life was in play early on Sunday. From Post 5, she found the front well before the :27.2 opening quarter-mile. Lookslikeachpndale (driven by Dan Dube), who left directly outside of the lass, was hard-used just to cram into the pocket.
Once Charmed Life made the lead, there wasn’t a whole lot of suspense. She cut the rest of the fractions (:58.2, 1:27.3) and nailed the finish line in 1:56.3.
‘Chpndale’ easily saved second, while DWs NY Yank (George Brennan), Buen Camino (Brian Sears) and Tight Lines (Jeff Gregory) were relegated to the minors.
For Charmed Life is a seven-year-old millionaire daughter of Majestic Son that is co-owned (as Allard Racing) by (trainer) Rene Allard, Yves Sarazin and VIP Internet Stable. The victory was Charmed Life’s eighth win from 23 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $17 and the ‘triple’ returned $81.50.
The scheduled ‘New York, New York Double’ was cancelled after Aqueduct scrapped its card.
Sunday matinees, along with the weather-permitting ‘New York, New York Double,’ will return on November 26 (post time to be announced).
