‘Beach’ Undergoing Chemotherapy

Brent MacGrath has confirmed with Trot Insider that the great Somebeachsomewhere recently had a small cancerous mass removed and has begun a six-week round of chemotherapy.

The mass, which was roughly half the size of a grape, was discovered after Hanover Shoes Farms’ farm manager, Dr. Bridgette Jablonsky, elected to send the superstar son of Mach Three to an equine hospital. ‘Beach,’ who has dealt with colic and some stomach issues in the past, had been suffering from some discomfort. After having located the part of Beach’s intestine that was causing the issue, the small mass was then detected.

Somebeachsomewhere, who had the mass removed roughly a week and a half ago, commenced chemotherapy yesterday (Saturday, November 18). Beach’s treatment is being overseen by internal medicine specialist Dr. Rodney Belgrave of the Mid-Atlantic Veterinary Center, which is located in Ringoes, NJ. Three biopsies of the mass had been conducted, one of which came back as positive for cancer.

Speaking on behalf of the Bible Hill, NS-based Schooner Stable – which still retains majority ownership of Somebeachsomewhere despite his syndication – Brent MacGrath has said that both Hanover Shoe Farms and Schooner are putting Beach’s well-being before everything.

“Above all else, Beach’s health is of paramount importance,” MacGrath told Trot Insider. “Hanover feels the same way as we do, which is what makes them such a great partner. The health of Beach is of No. 1 importance to us all, and we are absolutely confident that he is receiving the best care he can possibly get.”

MacGrath has pointed to the silver lining in the situation. He stated that Dr. Jablonsky’s cautious approach with Somebeachsomewhere led to the early detection of the mass. In this case, the colic could prove to be quite the blessing in disguise.
