Anticipation continues to build in advance of Saturday’s grand opening of the Meadowlands Racetrack’s new, $88-million grandstand. Now, fans of the ‘Mecca of Harness Racing’ can take a sneak peek of how the facility looks heading into opening weekend.
“What you’re seeing here today is a culmination of all of the hard work of our construction folks here that have done a fantastic job getting us to the finish line,” said Jason Settlemoir, the CEO and general manager of Meadowlands Racetrack.
As John Brennan’s report for The Bergen Record explains, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday before the first race gets going at 7:15 p.m.
“It’s not as big as the other place (the old grandstand),” said Settlemoir. “It’s 135,000 square feet enclosed in the building. With all of the decks and everything like that it is about 180,000 square feet, so it is about a third of the size as the other facility, but this is much more intimate and efficient. And on Saturday night, as I’ve said before, I expect this place to be bumpin’.”
