Veteran trotter Tritri stormed home from backfield to win Kawartha Downs’ $11,300 Autumn Colours Series Final for $5,500 claimers on Saturday night

.

Tritri was joined in the series final by his fellow top nine finishers in the elimination round last week. Entering the race off a second-place finish as the 7-2 third choice, inside starter Tritri found himself in eighth position 10 lengths off the lead early on.

Elimination winner Little Paco (Aaron Byron) established the lead from Post 5 and led the way past the opening quarter in :28.4 and half in :57.4 with the parked out 45-1 longshot Classic Obsession (Brad Rae) moving up alongside. However, Little Paco proceeded to three-quarters in 1:28.2 turning back Classic Obsession, which sent the outside trailers including Tritri and driver Fred Brethour wide.

Advancing from the very back of the pack was World Stage (Gord Brown), but he broke stride when moving up to take over command, which left the closing Tritri and favourite Cowboys Like Us (Per Henriksen) duelling for the win down the stretch. Tritri prevailed in 1:59.4 by half a length with World Stage coming back on for second. However, World Stage was placed back to fourth for failing to loose ground while on a break. Cowboys Like Us inherited second while the other elimination winner, La Star Dream (Jonathan Drury), was bumped up to third.

The nine-year-old son of Mac Sorley-Miss Davril has won five of his last six starts for trainer James Marchment and owner Patricia Chirrey of Warkworth, Ont. Tritri’s 29th career win pushed his earnings over the $200,000 mark.

Tritri paid $9.70 to win.
