Trainer Mark Beckwith will wrap up the training title next month at Saratoga Casino Hotel and the veteran horseman has seen his stable be the dominant force in the regular Monday afternoon feature, the Fillies and Mares Open, over the course of the 2024 campaign.
Remy Brown N was the 6-5 betting favourite in Monday’s installment of the $21,127 Open for the ladies as Mark Beckwith drove the mare for owners Steve Manzi and Pie San LLC.
Remy Brown N, who came into the race off a winning qualifier after making breaks in her previous two starts, powered out to the lead in a :27.1 first quarter in the feature and cruised unopposed for the majority of the mile before Beckwith pushed the button on Remy Brown N, who responded by prevailing by three lengths in a mile clocked in 1:54. Racy Roxy A (Jay Randall) closed sharply to finish second to continue a stretch in which she’s now finished first or second in seven of her last nine starts. Alittlesidehustl N (Billy Dobson) came on to be third.
Remy Brown N’s win was her second in the local Open this season and the 12th for the Beckwith stable in the Fillies and Mares Open in the 2024 campaign at the Spa.
The Open score was one of three wins for Beckwith on the Monday program as both driver and trainer as Wheres My Phone scored in her Spa debut and Straight And Sassy overcame post eight to prevail on the matinee card.
Live harness racing continues on Tuesday, Nov. 19 with a matinee that begins at 12 p.m.
