After a bridesmaid in two consecutive starts at Mohegan Sun at Pocono in the $30,000 Open Handicap Pace, Go On BB made it to the “altar” by winning in the same condition Wednesday evening
.
Prior to winning Wednesday night, the Ron Burke-trained five-year-old mare had finished second in the November 4 and 11th starts to Ubetterthink Think and Marietta Hall, just missing out by less than a length in both of those races.
But it was a different story the third time around when Greg Grismore gave Go On BB a two-hole trip, sitting in the pocket with Ubetterthink Think setting the table, taking the seven-horse field to the opening quarter in :26.3, half in :55.2 before being challenged on the outside by Quicksilvercandy A (Larry Stalbaum) down the backstretch.
Quicksilvercandy A slugged it out with Ubetterthink Think and was the new leader at the three-quarters timed in 1:23 with Go On BB still sitting in the pocket.
Grismore waited patiently for the Pocono Pike (passing lane) to open and charged down the stretch to win in 1:52.1. Gerries Madison (Ryan Anderson) was flying at the end of the mile to finish three-quarters of a length behind with Paper Cut (Anthony Napolitano) third, a length behind.
In the battle for training honours with just two days remaining on the 135-day meet, Chris Oakes was out in front of Carmine Fusco by eight wins after the 14-race card Wednesday. Oakes collected three wins while Fusco had one victory on the night.
