Odds-on favourite Prairie Illusion delivered on her pari-mutuel promise in the featured $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace on Sunday at Fraser Downs.
Assigned post six in the eight-horse field, Prairie Illusion and driver Jim Marino settled away mid-pack off the gate. The popular mare later advanced first over nearing the third quarter station and kicked home in :28.1 to win by three lengths in 1:54.3. She paid $4.30 to win. Just Fiction (John Chappell) finished second off a pocket trip while her stablemate, Call Me Up (Bill Davis), settled for third after carving out the race fractions of :28, :57.4, 1:26.
William Young owns and trains the four-year-old Mach Three mare, who posted her second win in a row and 10th of the season from 19 starts.
Prairie Illusion's victory improved her lifetime record to 19-7-13 in 59 starts while boosting her bankroll to $140,066.
