Secret Weapon romped away to win by more than eight lengths in the featured $13,500 Preferred Pace for driver Doug McNair, who engineered last week’s head decision in the main event. The seven-year-old son of Western Hanover enjoyed a second-over journey en route to posting the 1:55.1 score over Beach Boy Toy and Three Cents.
Barbara and James Lehman of Waterloo share ownership on the 28-time winner with Robert Patterson of Caledon, ON. The pacer has put together a 7-for-23 record this season while stashing away more than $88,000 along the way. He has banked $347,785 to date.
Headpoles R Us snatched her second consecutive victory with a 1:56.1 score in $11,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred for the tandem of driver Brad Forward and trainer Chris Haskell. Forward hustled the five-year-old Bo Knows Jate miss through intervals of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:28 before roaring home in :28.1 to halt the teletimer in 1:56.1. Call Me Yours was a hard-charging second and St Lads Hailaroo tagged along to grab the show dough.
Ron Haskell of Windsor, ON holds the ownership papers on the former claimer who has manufactured a 15-1-0 record in 20 trips postward this season. This year’s bankroll surpassed the $87,000 mark with the win while her overall total climbed to $145,606.
Long Ago played a game of “catch me if you can” for driver Dan Clemmer in the $10,000 Preferred-2 Trot, and the competition couldn’t get to the front-stepping four-year-old son of Duke Of York. Clemmer insisted on chopping out fractions of :28.2, :59.2 and 1:30.1 with the John Holding trainee, who only needed 31-second final quarter speed to se4al the deal and stop the clock in 2:01.1. Terra Cotta Caddy was a fast-closing runner-up and Im Classy tagged along to finish third.
It was the third win of the season and the seventh lifetime tally for Long Ago, who has banked $99,334 to date for Holding and partner Bryan Montgomery of Fergus, ON.
Acceptable Risk returned from a short vacation to take home top prize in the $10,000 Preferred-2 Pace for driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Dan Morrissey. The six-year-old son of Intrepid Seelster survived a first-over trip to win by three-quarters of a length over race favourite Part Shark in a time of 1:57. Gunsmoke VMW rounded out the top three in the seven-horse affair.
David Morrissey, Daniel McCann and William Woodburn share ownership on the 27-time winner, who now owns a 7-6-3 record in 29 trips to the track this season. The $5,000 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $477,687.
