The Rev and a motionless Gilles Barrieau disposed of all comers in the Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15) Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.
Leaving sharply from post 4, The Rev struck the front in the $2,900 Preferred Pace for trainer-driver Barrieau and walked through splits of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.2 before opening up by three lengths in the stretch to win in 1:55.3. Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) was second while Revenant (Adam Merner) was third.
It was the 43rd career win for The Rev, who is owned by Jeff Skinner.
Marc Campbell was the hot driver of the day again with five trips to the winner’s circle. The O’Brien Award-winning horseman won the second race with Spack Jarrow in 1:59.4 over a track rated two seconds off for trainer Raymond White. Campbell then won the $2,750 Fillies and Mares Open Pace (race six) with Filly Forty Seven in 1:58.3, followed by the 10th race with Shadow Of A Daut in 1:59.4 from the Earl Watts barn. Clever Thing then scored a six-length romp in race 11, stopping the clock in 1:58.2 for trainer Kyle Wilkie. Campbell’s final score was in the afternoon finale as Paris Beau was a 1:59.3 victor for conditioner Doug Beckwith.
