The governor-elect of Ohio, John Kasich, is throwing a monkey wrench in the plans for slots
at the state’s racetracks.
Harness Tracks of America has quoted Kasich as saying that he has “mixed emotions” about the idea and wants time to study the proposal as it stands, in view of the approval of four Las Vegas-style casinos in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo.
The HTA report states that he offered no estimate of how long it might take for him to make up his mind, but it could be critical for owners of Buckeye tracks.
Opponents, meanwhile, continue their pressure, saying the machines are unconstitutional.
