Trot Insider has learned that top Alberta sophomore Grey Horizon has been sold to U.S.-based ownership.
A striking son of Vertical Horizon - Panagler, Grey Horizon concluded his stakes racing career in Alberta with seven straight scores, sweeping the Ralph Klein Memorial, Alberta Plainsman, Western Canada Pacing Derby and Alberta Sires Stakes Super Final. The roan colt was a nine-time winner in 2024, counting a sweep of the Moores Mile Stakes among his seasonal victories, for a two-year summary of 14-6-0 from 22 starts with $340,725 in earnings and a mark of 1:53 taken at Century Downs.
Trained and primarily driven by Brandon Campbell during his sophomore season, Grey Horizon was owned by Jodi Loftus, Raymond Henry and George Rogers of Calgary, Alta. According to Campbell, the colt was sold to Wayne Kellogg of New York-based Kellogg Racing Stables — the same connections that purchased former Campbell pupil and 2023 divisional winner Virtual Horizon.
"It's tough to see him go. I’m a lot more attached to him then I was to Virtual Horizon, who we sold to Wayne the year before," Campbell told Trot Insider on Tuesday, Nov. 12. "Grey Horizon, believe it or not, was just starting to peak at the end of the stakes season. I’m very confident if we had more races he would just become even more dominant.
"It is still nice to watch them go down [to the States] and compete against the best."
Details regarding the sale price were not disclosed.
