Considering what time of year it is, it seems quite fitting that a horse named Happy Holidays was triumphant in Tuesday’s trotting feature at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Happy Holidays was one of eight trotters recruited to battle in the $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap, and for the majority of the mile the mare was treated to a ground-saving trip.

Waikiki Hanover shot to the top from Post 3 and supplied the field with first-half fractions of :27.2 and :58.1. Happy Holidays commenced a first-over rally in the third quarter, and she showed a short lead while racing parked outside of Waikiki Hanover at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2. The five-year-old daughter of Holiday Road-Dynamic Lavec used a :31.1 closing frame to fend off race favourite Hldontghttoyurdrms by a nose in 1:58.3. Willyorwonthe was third.

Anthony MacDonald guided the Amy MacDonald trainee to the win for Thestable HH Group of Guelph, Ont. The victory was her 10th of the season and the 18th of her career. She’s banked over $57,000 this season and more than $105,000 to date.
