Standardbred Canada is seeking nominations for the driver who will represent Canada at the 2024 World Amateur Driving Championship.
The multi-day racing event, and celebrations surrounding the Championship races, will take place in Finland between Aug. 19 and 22, 2024. All costs associated with the event, other than costs provided by the host, shall be paid by the participant and/or any sponsors that the participant can obtain.
Standardbred Canada has been asked to nominate an amateur driver to represent Canada in the prestigious event and will do so from the submissions received.
The schedule calls for three race dates to be held on Monday, Aug. 19, Tuesday, Aug. 20 and Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, with the celebratory medal ceremony banquet to follow on Thursday, Aug. 22.
To be considered, drivers must meet the following conditions:
- Valid Standardbred Canada driver’s license and in good standing.
- Valid Provincial driver’s license and in good standing.
- Must have a minimum of 25 pari-mutuel wins as a driver.
- Must have maintained an amateur driving status for the past 10 years, which allows for:
- Driving horses that he or she owns.
- Driving in amateur races where drivers’ fees are donated to a registered charity.
- Driving for a third party but donating drivers’ fees to a registered charity.
Experience will rely heavily on participation in officially sanctioned amateur races.
Strict adherence to professionalism is expected, and reference checks will be conducted. All candidates will be required to agree to a Code of Conduct.
Submissions should include your name, location, amateur driving status (i.e., the number of amateur events you have driven in and a statistical breakdown), and any information about how you intend to represent Canada if selected.
Please submit your application via email by 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2024 to Jade Regina at [email protected].
Standardbred Canada wishes the best of luck to all applicants.
