Can I Say disappointed as the favourite in last week’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, but she redeemed herself with a popular score in Thursday’s feature race at Canada’s fastest half-mile oval.

In rein to Garrett Whelan, Can I Say rode cover in the back-half of the contest before kicking off that cover and powering away to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Heres The Magic in 1:56.3. Taking home the show dough was Equity.

The five-year-old daughter of Fourth And One-Emerald Éclair added her name to the record books at Flamboro Downs on October 23 when she matched the track record of 1:56.1 for older trotting mares. Trainer Jim Whelan shares ownership on the homebred with Terry & Clarence Devos of Langton, Ontario. The 16-time winner has stashed away more than $260,000 to date.

Money Maven pushed his winning streak to two-in-a-row thanks to his wire-to-wire score in the $7,000 Preferred 3 for trotters. Trainer/driver Danny O’Brian hustled the gelding through fractions of :29.3, :59 and 1:28.4 before stepping home in :29.3 to eke out the nose decision over Dragin The Wagon in 1:58.2. Magic Lindy rounded out the Triactor ticket.

The win was the fifth of the season – and the ninth to date – for the five-year-old son of Revenue S-The Raven. The winner in excess of $158,000 is owned by Everette Hanson of Maugerville, New Brunswick.
