Race For Titles Goes Right To The Wire

Highland Gladiator, under the command of Kenny Arsenault, was able to hold off a late charge by Last Art on Deck to win the feature race Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Summerside

.

The five-year-old gelding, trained by Wendell Shaw of Summerside, stopped the timer in 1:57.3 to close out the final card of the season for Highland Thoroughbred Farms of Inglewood, Ont. Life Savior held on for third for driver Marc Campbell.

Campbell had a driving double on the action packed program to give him the top driver award over Corey MacPherson. The drivers went into the last day tied with 32 victories. The Winlsoe native took the lead when he guided Cereal Lover to a 1:59. 2 score in the seventh and banked the leaderboard with a victory in the very next race with Bemused.

The top trainer standings also went down in dramatic fashion when Dale Sobey sent out Feel Ideal in the afternoon opener to reach Mitch Tierney with 14 winners on the season. Norris Rogers did the driving for the Sobey stable then put the Summerside trainer on top when he won with Abba Quick Dex in the fifth for a Rogers' driving double.
