Riding the rail, Doctor Royal waited to unleash his kick until the stretch drive, overpowering rail-popper Beach Runner A M to take the $8,100 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Stonebridge Beach cleared control from Vegas Rocks past a :27 opening quarter before forfeiting the lead nearing the half. Vegas Rocks controlled the pace through a :56.1 mid-station and to three-quarters in 1:24.3. Doctor Royal sat seven lengths from the lead entering the final turn as owner-trainer-driver Marie Claude Auger wound the six-year-old gelding's bid.
By the top of the stretch, Doctor Royal ranged to within three-lengths of the lead while Beach Runner A M advanced towards the lead and Vegas Rocks clung to positioning inside. Doctor Royal continued to sprint in the lane and slid to a half-length victory on the line over Beach Runner A M in 1:53.4 with National Debt, from first over, taking third.
A son of Royal Mattjesty, Doctor Royal also competes for owner 2273824146. The $11.00 winner collected his 11th victory from 32 starts this season and his 15th from 47 overall, earning $81,359.
