Sam Hill Strikes In Meadows Preferred

Under pressure on the lead throughout the mile, Sam Hill still was able to dig in late and capture Tuesday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Although Sam Hill thwarted the early challenge of Transcending, he appeared vulnerable to Ultimate Beachboy when the 2-5 favourite attacked in the stretch. Sam Hill responded gamely to the urging of Greg Wright, Jr. and held off Ultimate Beachboy by a head in 1:51.1. Carols Comet was a ground-saving third.

John Sullivan trains Sam Hill, a seven-year-old Artsplace-Apple Of My Eye gelding who now boasts $229,109 in career earnings for Don Tiger.

Eric Ledford, Dave Palone and Mike Wilder each drove three winners on the 15-race card.
