One of the sport's hottest pacers during the coldest months last year, Easy Lover Hanover returned to the winner's circle on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Woodbine Mohawk Park amid flurries in the air with a 1:49.4 in the $30,000 featured pace.
The Ben Wallace-trained gelding by Somebeachsomewhere sat fourth to a :27.1 quarter set by American Wiggle with Brave World tracking from second. Following no movement past a :55.2 half, driver Doug McNair angled the five-year-old first over heading to three-quarters and brushed to the lead past the 1:23 station. Easy Lover Hanover charged to the wire with a :26.1 final quarter to best Brave World by two-and-three-quarter lengths while American Wiggle faded to third.
Racing for owner Brad Grant, Easy Lover Hanover won his fifth race in 23 starts this season and his 30th in 80 overall, earning $742,449. Sent the 7-5 favourite, he paid $4.60 to win.
