A quartet of big money stake events went postward as part of a special Remembrance Day matinee program at Fraser Downs on Wednesday, and the pacers put on
quite a show in their respective events.
A set of $40,000 finals of the BC Breeders Stakes for two-year-olds were contested as non-wagering tilts prior to the program, and it was a clean sweep for trainer/driver Ed Hensley and the ownership group of Alan Anderson and J J J Stables.
Shes With Me got the ball rolling thanks to a come-from-behind tally in the filly division. The daughter of Kents On Nuke-Princess Jessica sat off a wicked speed battle and pounced on the tiring leaders in the late stages of the mile en route to posting a neck decision over Red Star Dana in 1:58.4. Third prize went to Stormy Tuesday.
A :31.3 final quarter is all it took for the freshman to register her first victory in three career starts. The $20,000 payday bumped the homebred’s bankroll to $22,000.
Nobody Can overcame early interference to take home top prize in the $40,000 final for the boys. The son of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover brushed to the top at the three-quarter pole after Dontmakemebeg supplied fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:27.1. Nobody Can kicked home in 30 seconds to post the one-length score over True Humility in 1:57.2. Dontmakemebeg faded let and wound up finishing third.
It was the third win of the season in just four attempts for the homebred gelding, who now boasts a bankroll that sits at $28,350.
Legal Suspensory powered away to an impressive 1:55.2 decision in the $75,000 final of the Mary Murphy Breeders Stake for three-year-old fillies. Rick Zeron mapped out the winning trip for the Thomas Miller-trained daughter of Pulledsuspensory-Als Jenna, who picked up the biggest payday of her career.
Owned and bred by Shale Stables of Merrit, BC, Legal Suspensory defeated Nazko Finally and Oral Fixation en route to posting her ninth win of the 2009 campaign in just 11 assignments. She finished out of the money in her lone rookie start, but has banked more than $74,000 this season.
Camblazer extended his win streak to four-in-a-row thanks to his gate-to-wire score in the $75,000 final of the Robert Murphy Breeders Stake for three-year-old colts and geldings. The son of Camcracker-Squeaker Hanover laid down panels of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25.2 for trainer/driver Dave Hudon before kicking home in :29.1 to seal the deal in 1:54.3. Cody Cobraski was second best and Interstate Five was third.
Bill Boden of Vancouver, BC bred and owns the gelding, who now boasts a 9-3-1 record in 15 trips behind the starting gate this season. After banking just over $20,000 as a freshman, Camblazer has stashed away more than $121,000 this season to bring his lifetime haul to $141,645.
