Horses connected to Courant Inc. played a significant role in the three-year-old trotting colt division in 2019, as Greenshoe, Gimpanzee and Green Manalishi S loomed large in every stakes event they took part in. The stakes season is now all but done, and Courant has provided an update on what the Marcus Melander-trained trio will be up to from here on out.

It was announced in early September that Zweig and Stanley Dancer victor Greenshoe – the eventual Kentucky Futurity, KYSS Final and Bluegrass winner – would be standing at Hanover Shoe Farms in 2020. Tentative plans had been made for Greenshoe to contest the TVG final at the Meadowlands Racetrack. Melander mentioned this past week that Greenshoe, the $1.38-million earning son of Father Patrick, will most likely forego the TVG and head to Hanover. Courant relayed the same information via social media last week, as it stated, “Greenshoe is preparing to jump for the fertility test on November 20, then syndication will take place, so there will be no TVG for him.”

Gimpanzee, pictured winning the 2019 Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Colt Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Yonkers Trot and NYSS Final winner Gimpanzee pushed his seasonal earnings total past the $1 million mark when he won his Breeders Crown final last month at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The Chapter Seven colt had carried a 12-race unbeaten streak into the Hambletonian, where he was handed a pair of losses during the day of heat racing. He shrugged off the losses by subsequently winning the Yonkers Trot and NYSS Final. He then went down to the Red Mile and hit the board during Grand Circuit stakes action. Gimpanzee then headed to Mohawk, where, after having finished off the board in his elim, he went on to capture his Breeders Crown. Gimpanzee’s connections are looking for more, according to Courant, which stated on social media last week that Gimpanzee will be contesting the “Matron, then TVG.”

Canadian Trotting Classic winner Green Manalishi S compiled an impressive sophomore season for Courant, as the son of Muscle Hill won six of his 13 races and notched two second-place finishes and a pair of thirds. The colt’s $746,670 in seasonal earnings has pushed his career bankroll past the $1.3-million mark. Green Manalishi S, who also tasted victory in the Simcoe and Bluegrass Stakes this year, will not be seen on the racetrack again this year, according to Courant, which stated on social media last week that Green Manalishi S “is done for the season and will prepare for the Swedish and French season at four.”
