Belanger Saves The Day

A scary incident occurred in the eighth race at Sudbury Downs on Wednesday when driver Al Hohner, who was driving Mystical Vision, found himself in a situation with a broken line

.

Trot Insider learned that Hohner’s line broke as the field marched into the first turn, and if it wasn’t for a heads up move by his son-in-law, Gerry Belanger, things could have been disastrous for the veteran horseman.

Belanger managed to grab the bridle of Mystical Vision when he noticed Hohner was left with just the one line, and he eventually managed to bring Hohner’s charge to a stop.

The Ontario Racing Commission Judges refunded money wagered on Belanger’s horse, Aforgottendynasty, as a result of the unusual circumstances which led to that horse pulling up. All horses and drivers involved came away from the mishap unscathed.
