After a sustained rally came up 3-1/2 lengths short last week, So Not Cool ($2.20) returned to the winner’s enclosure in dominant fashion, capturing Wednesday evening’s (November 1) $9,000 featured trotting event at Flamboro Downs.
Bob McClure was patient early with the six-year-old Muscles Yankee gelding, sitting in midfield off a contested :28.3 first quarter while Emmalulu (Alfie Carroll) duelled to clear South Win Bax (Stephen Byron) on approach to the far turn. So Not Cool began his first-over ascent nearing the midway point, and wore down Emmalulu through a :59 middle half before powering clear of a collapsing pace on the far turn. So Not Cool amassed six lengths of clearance en route to a 1:56.4 score, his fastest seasonal win and the fifth of his career. Pollar Hall (Bruce Richardson) worked into second in the last strides of Galaxy (Robert Shepherd), who chased the winner’s live cover through the middle stages before levelling off upon turning for home.
Duane Marfisi trains So Not Cool—a winner three times in six tries this year, and victorious twice in his last three outings—for Awesome Acres Standardbreds.
The top-class win kicked off a natural grand slam for McClure. “Prime Time” teamed up with odds-on favourites Exodus Seelster ($3.40, 1:56.4), Michelles Deuce ($2.80, 1:57.2), and Silverinyourpocket ($3.60, 1:55.1) in the next three races.
