On the heels of an October 19 decision by the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering to approve an application for pari-mutuel barrel racing, Gretna Racing has asked the government of Gadsden County to authorize a referendum in regard to whether or not slot machines can be installed at its facility
.
The news comes according to a report on thehorse.com, which states that the request is an agenda item on the November 1 meeting of the Gadsden County Board of Commissioners.
The report states that Gretna Racing has asked for the referendum to be placed on a county ballot as soon as January 31, 2012.
Multiple horse racing organizations had opposed the group's application for pari-mutuel barrel racing and stated that they believe the group is merely trying to abuse a loophole to ultimately allow it get the go-ahead for a poker room.
