After a four-month stint in New York, Dealin With Dewey made his presence known to his Flamboro Downs Preferred Trot rivals as he won the $10,000 feature on Thursday, Oct. 9 with authority.
Dealin With Dewey pushed clear of three leaving rivals into the first turn and secured command for Brett MacDonald to a :28.2 first quarter. He was unopposed through the :58.2 half and 1:27.2 three-quarters with Royalty Beer (Samuel Fillion) forced three-wide around cover to move into contention entering the final turn. With that rival looming in the rear-view mirror, MacDonald popped the plugs, and Dealin With Dewey neutralized Royalty Beer and pocket-sitter Goodashim (Scott Coulter) in the stretch to win in 1:56.3. Goodashim was second, 1-1/2 lengths behind, followed by Royalty Beer.
Dealin With Dewey picked up his ninth win of the season in 24 starts for Sara Baillargeon of Guelph, Ont., who owns and trains the son of Wheeling N Dealin-Rockin With Dewey. The gelding has alternated between New York and Ontario this season, with his stateside trips accounting for six of his victories. He has won top-level events at Flamboro, The Raceway at the Western Fair District, Batavia Downs, and Buffalo Raceway this year. The seven-year-old has amassed 26 wins and $434,695 in earnings in 131 lifetime appearances. He returned $2.70 to win.
