Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund $148,649 Final events for two-year-old trotters headlined the Wednesday (Oct. 9) card at Harrington Raceway.
Linda Mac Donald’s Buttoncandy ($13, Art Stafford Jr.) was a 2:04.4 winner in the filly trotting final over Holly Lou and Lady Burg. Taking advantage of attrition at the start when multiple horses went off stride, Buttoncandy cruised to her second career win for trainer Joe Mac Donald. The E L Platinum filly improved to two-for-three lifetime.
Melvin G ($2.10, pictured above) notched his third straight win in the male trotting final in 1:59.2, with Jim Morand in the bike, over Wolfpack Cheddar and Legend Of Rock. Owned by Legacy Racing and Nanticoke Racing, the Les Givens-trainee was coming off a track record performance the week prior in 1:58.1 and was a comfortable front end winner.
In the $67,568 Allen J Cook Jr. Memorial, Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing’s Speed Away ($9.80) recorded his third straight win over Sinatra De Vie and Not For Moni in 1:55.2. The Nick Callahan trainee continued his success over the Harrington half-mile oval with a sustained first-over gain and victory. All six of his wins in 2024 have come at Harrington. The race was named in honour of the long-time racing official and former horsemen who was extremely popular among the local racing community.
Live racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule. Post time 4:30 p.m.
