Highlights from 2022 Atlantic Breeders Crown Day

Our Girl Annie made Mark Bradley’s career milestone one to remember during Atlantic Breeders Crown Sunday (Oct. 9) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. 

Bradley went into Championship Sunday with 999 driving wins and moved his total into four digits in the $25,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown for two-year-old pacing fillies, presented by Cavendish Farms, with Our Girl Annie in a front-stepping score of 1:58.1. Bradley drove the Arthur Blue Chip filly for trainer Eddy Doucette and owners Blaine, Jennifer and Jessica Thibeau of Kensington. Elm Grove Redwine (driven by David Dowling) was second ahead of Rosetown Mary (Corey MacPherson).

Therealprincess had her win streak snapped at 14 in the $25,000 three-year-old pacing filly Atlantic Breeders Crown final as Tobins Diva (Ken Murphy) rode the pocket to win in 1:56 for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Therealprincess (Corey MacPherson) finished second with Woodmere Jazz (Marc Campbell) third. It was Ken Murphy's first Atlantic Breeders Crown victory. 

Tobins Diva winning at Charlottetown Driving Park

Fern Hill Gusto led at every call to win the $25,000 three-year-old pacing colt final by two lengths in 1:54 with JJ Xavier (Gilles Barrieau) finishing ahead of Rollwithhottytoddy (Jason Hughes). Marc Campbell trains and drives the champion son of Stonebridge Terror for Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore, N.S. 

Fern Hill Gusto winning at Charlottetown Driving Park

Malignity fired down some fast fractions to win the $25,000 two-year-old pacing colt final for trainer-driver Paul Langille’s first Atlantic Breeders Crown score in 1:55.4. The Malicious colt led through splits of 27.3, 55.1 and 1:24.4 to win by 12 lengths over Roman Raven (Gilles Barrieau) and Fishermans Son (Danny Gillis). Debbie Francis holds the winning ownership papers along with Rosanne Langille of Nova Scotia. 

Malignity winning at Charlottetown Driving Park

Irish Ray remained undefeated in the $15,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown two-year-old trot final in 2:02.4 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. The Muscle Through It gelding won his 10th straight over Windemeregotmuscle (Jason Hughes) and Miss Brylee Ridge (Clare MacDonald).

Up Helly AA (Ken MacDonald) defended his 2021 Atlantic Breeders Crown title in the $15,000 three-year-old trot final in 2:00.1 for trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. Headline Howie (Mike McGuigan) cut out the mile and was second with Gettinallfiredup (Marc Campbell) third. 

Up Helly AA winning at Charlottetown Driving Park

Jessiejesorjessica (David Dowling) won the $7,500 Island Oceans Aged Trot Mares final, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc., in 1:59.4 for conditioner Jennifer Doyle, who co-owns with Danny Birt. 

Twin B Tuffenuff claimed the $15,000 Premier’s Pace in 1:52.4 in line to Barrieau for trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown. 

Dreamfair Zenfire was the best in the $6,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace in 1:54.1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Evereyy MacLeod of Souris. 

Gilles Barrieau made his 5,000th trip to the winner’s circle as a driver in Race 11 with Mc Pat, from his own stable, winning an overnight dash in 1:55.3.
