'Spartan' Streaks To Preferred Victory

Spartan Victory established a new season's mark while notching his fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday night in Grand River Raceway's featured $7,000 Preferred 3 Trot.

With wins from the inside post position in the Preferred 3 class two starts ago and from the outside starting spot last week, the luck of the draw was back on Spartan Victory's side. Leaving from the pylons again with James MacDonald catch-driving, the six-year-old Hard Rock N Roll gelding fronted the field through fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:28.1 en route to the 1:57.4 triumph. Spartan Victory was two and a half lengths the best with Long Ago (Bruce Richardson) rallying wide at the top of the stretch to place and the popular pocket-sitter Pricevalleyrevitup (Trevor Henry) rounding out the top three finishers.

The 4-1 third choice at the betting windows paid $10.80 to win.

Owned and trained by Bradley Pittock of London, Ont., Spartan Victory has compiled a seasonal record reading 5-3-2 in 23 starts. Lifetime, he has earned 13 wins and more than $100,000 in purses.
