Puff Mommy continued her winning ways on Wednesday night as she rallied once again to win the $7,400 Open I-II Pace for fillies and mares at Batavia Downs. It was the second straight victory for the razor-sharp Puff Mommy and third in her last four appearances.
It was another big backside move once again that sent Puff Mommy ($7.30) to the victory. She went three-wide down the backstretch for Batavia Downs' leading driver Shawn McDonough and collared the pacesetting Youre Too Funny at the top of the lane, easily pacing away to the two and three-quarter length win in 1:55.3 over the fast track. Youre Too Funny (Kevin Cummings) held on for second while Real Joy (Ron Beback Jr.) took the show spot.
The win was the ninth of the season for Puff Mommy (Cambest-Ten Pound Puff), who is owned by Empowered Racing and trained by Carl Smith. The lion's share of the purse moved the six-year-old mare's seasonal earnings to $51,420 and career total to $237,500. It was also her 30th career victory.
Racing continues on Friday night at Batavia Downs with a 12-race program slated for 6:30 p.m. The feature will the $8,500 Open Trot where BZ Glide is the 5-2 favourite despite being assigned the eight post. Mike Caprio will be in the sulky.
