Five-year-old Mister Big gelding Just Toyin With Ya tried new tactics in the $13,000 featured pace at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Monday night – go fast, then go even faster, then go faster yet – and they worked to perfection, as the pacer stormed to a 1:49.4 victory, lowering his mark by over two seconds.
Driver Eric Carlson had the pedal to the metal early with Just Toyin With Ya and laid down winners-over-type fractions of :26.2, :54.2, and 1:21.2, opening a four length lead going around the final turn and carrying his speed to the wire for a 6-1/2 length tally over You Got Trumped, as the winner certainly lived up to his name in the estimation of those trailing him across the wire.
Unraced at both two and three and with only one show in two starts at age four, Just Toyin With Ya seems ready to make up for the lost time with this breakthrough tally. Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC own the winning pacer, who likely won’t be racing for an $18,000 tag next time behind the gate.
