Sam Hill Equals Meadows Record

Sam Hill matched the track record for older geldings — a mark he already shared — when he captured Tuesday’s $20,000 Preferred Handicap Pace in 1:49.3.

Southern Allie and I Found My Beach dueled for the lead well past the half. That was the signal for Greg Wright, Jr. to move Sam Hill from fifth. The seven-year-old Artsplace-Apple Of My Eye gelding gobbled up the tiring leaders and held off the rallying Pair A Dice to triumph by 1-3/4 lengths. Carols Comet shot the Lightning Lane for show.

John Sullivan trains Sam Hill, who now boasts $214,009 in career earnings, for Don Tiger. Sam Hill won a week ago in 1:49.3 while Lotsa Power, the other record co-holder, achieved that mark in 2010.

Dave Palone drove three winners, including three for trainer Ron Burke, on the 15-race card. With one win Tuesday, Aaron Merriman extended his career victory total to 5,999.
