A Ps Money Maker wore down pacesetter Arts Diva to capture the $38,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace in a new track record of 1:49.1 on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack

.

With the field of mares reduced to five following the scratch of Miss Scarlett, Arts Diva and Paul MacDonell fired off the gate from Post 4 and settled on top before the first turn. She hit the opening quarter mark in :26.2 and led the strung out field to the half in :54.1.

With Blissful Smile and Jack Moiseyev edging off the rail in behind, favourite A Ps Money Maker, driven by Rick Zeron, made her move from third and advanced first up as the field headed to three-quarters in 1:21.4. She took control down the stretch and opened up two and three-quarter lengths before hitting the wire in a career-best 1:49.1 to shave one-fifth of a second off the former track record for aged pacing mares, set by Dreamfair Eternal in last year’s Roses Are Red Stake. Arts Diva and Blissful Smile finished second and third.

A Ps Money Maker paid $3.60 to win for the fifth time in 22 starts this year. The five-year-old daughter of Cardmaster Hanover-Mint Kondition, who finished second to Dreamfair Eternal in the Milton Stakes on Sept. 25, now boasts over $250,000 in seasonal earnings for trainer Travis Umphrey and owners Terry Hamilton of Lethbridge, Joe Tinelli of St. Albert and Shir Win Racing Stable of Edmonton, Alta. The 18-time career winner has banked $557,088 in purses over the course of her career.

The win was one of three on the 10-race card for Zeron.
