Arnold Wins Northfield Billings Trot

The ladies of the sulky made an extraordinary showing in the Billings trot at Northfield Park on Sunday night (Oct. 6).

The ladies finished first and second, but it was Jazmin Arnold who shone brightest when she guided Buddy Hally to a gate-to-wire 1:56.4 victory over eight others. One of the foes that Arnold and Buddy Hally bested was Better Call Saul, who was driven by accomplished Billings participant Michelle Ruvola. It is a rarity when the ladies finish ‘one-two’ in a Billings race.

Sent off as the second choice, the talented and up-and-coming Arnold took no prisoners when she sent Buddy Hally to the lead and made every pole a winning one en route to an easy two and a half-length triumph over Better Call Saul. To add to the tenuity in the outcome is that the third-place finisher, Tartufo Lindy, was driven by Ruvola's dad, George Bonomo.

The race winner, Buddy Hally, is owned by Joseph Varga and is trained by Herman Hagerman. He paid $5.80.

The win was the second seasonal Billings victory for Arnold, who has been competing at the county fairs and now sports impressive stats of 18 wins, eight seconds and five thirds from 49 starts, which equates to a very impressive .492 UDR.
