With a wild pace being set in front of him all the way, Grand Teton only needed to turn on the jets in the lane to post a mild upset in the second division of the Tattersalls Pace.
Andrew McCarthy found himself watching from the cheap seats early with Grand Teton while Ideal Feeling and race favourite This Is The Plan took turns blazing away on the lead through vicious fractions of :26, :53.2 and 1:20.1. McCarthy angled his charge out wide as the entered the lane, and the Jimmy Takter trainee gobbled up ground – and foes – en route to posting the win in 1:48.1. Dorsoduro Hanover was a bang-up second, with Odds On Lauderdale taking home the show dough in the $225,000 affair.
It was just the third win of the season for the son of A Rocknroll Dance-Western Montana. The eight-time winner, who is owned by Diamond Creek Racing of Wellsville, PA, pushed his lifetime earnings to $455,808 with the win.
