Romanie Ranger, a runner-up in his three prior starts at Inverness Raceway, appeared to like the change of scenery as he stepped up on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs to win the top pacing class.

Redmond Doucet sent Romanie Ranger ($11.70) from fourth to first en route to the third quarter mark in the Winners Over Pace and held off the rallying J N J and early leader Jacob for the half-length victory in 1:57. The win was his fourth this year in 17 outings.

Lloyd MacLean trains the five-year-old son of As Promised for owner Raymond Deagle of Inverness, N.S.

Trainer-driver Kevin Bailey tripled up during the 12-race card with P H Ivy ($12), Im Here For You ($5.90) and Yankee First Hannah ($14.60) all winning their respective Saturday assignments.
