Montreal Phil turned back all challengers to win the featured $12,000 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome 3R.

Trainer-driver Marcel Barrieau sent 2-1 second choice Montreal Phil to the lead from post five and rebuffed challenge from Pieraz (Pascal Berube) and Stonebridge Cowboy (Dan Dube) throughout the mile, and then held off longshot Outrageous Art (Stephane Brosseau) to win in 1:55.2 by half a length. Peenie (Sylvain Lacaille) finished third.

The eight-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding, who is now three-for-10 on the year with over $25,000 banked in purses, surpassed the $300,000 career earnings mark for Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. of Hudson, Que.

Montreal Phil paid $6.40 to win.
