Smokeys Luck was a going away winner in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and he did so at a juicy price

.

Driver Darrell Coville was in no hurry with the Luc Blais-trained Smokeys Luck, who ducked into the six-hole while One False Move and Viper Select battled to the quarter pole in :26.1. Montreal Phil shot to the front shortly past the opening marker, and he took the field through middle splits of :54.4 and 1:23.4.

Smokeys Luck tracked cover behind One False Move during those two intervals before making a bold, three-wide move at the three-quarter pole. He used a :28.4 closing kick to draw off by 6-1/4 lengths over Imjustalittleguy in 1:53. Montreal Phil was third.

Sent off at odds of 7-1, the six-year-old Camluck-Unbridled Grace gelding won for the third time this season and for the 23rd time in his career. The career winner of $261,494 is owned by Les Ecuries Piramidan of Gatineau, QC.
