The Trot Canada National Handicapping is just a month away and things are really starting to heat up. With just a few qualifiers left to go, the players are revving up for

the action at Rideau Carleton Raceway on November 8.

With an estimated $25,000 up for grabs, the competition will be fierce and at this point it’s anyone’s game. We will be profiling players from across the country to give our readers the inside scoop on what makes these top handicappers tick.

Gary Montgomery of Elora, Ont. qualified at Grand River Raceway and will be making his first ever trip to Rideau this fall. Here’s a look at what Trot Insider learned from Montgomery.

  • Favourite Racetrack – Grand River Raceway
  • Favourite Stakes Race – Battle of Waterloo
  • Favourite Celebrity – Bobby Orr
  • Favourite Horse of All Time – Somebeachsomewhere
  • Interests/Hobbies – Fishing and Hockey

Montgomery has big plans for the grand prize should he happen to be lucky enough to win. He’d like to buy himself a fishing boat to enjoy in his retirement. With a one-in-fifty shot at the estimated $25,000, he could be in luck.
