Pinky Tuscadero wore down race leader Katherine B in the final strides to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 for pacing fillies and mares on Wednesday evening (October 5) at Flamboro Downs.
Katherine B led the field of nine through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.1 before losing by just a head after a stretch-long duel with Pinky Tuscadero. The eventual winner went on the attack approaching the half-mile mark, moving out of an early four-hole position to match strides with the pacesetter at the third quarter pole. Katherine B put up a fight down the stretch, but Pinky Tuscadero ultimately prevailed in the win photo in 1:56 flat while Bestulldotanite followed inside, finishing one length behind in third.
Mike Horner drove Pinky Tuscadero for his brother Mark Horner, who trains and shares ownership of the four-year-old Artistic Fella mare with his wife Stephanie.
Pinky Tuscadero now has two wins out of her last three races and has hit the board in 12 of her 26 starts this year for an annual income of $37,525. She was the 9-2 third wagering choice and paid $10.90 to win. The 6-5 favourite, Whistys Paradise, broke stride in the first turn taking herself out of contention.
