Travis Henry put the pedal to the metal early with Ride Away Shark in Thursday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at Flamboro Downs, and the distaffer responded with a front-stepping score in the featured affair.
Ride Away Shark marched to the top from Post 4 and carved out fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:24.4 before using a :29.1 closing quarter to fend off the favoured tandem of Buttermilk Hanover and Azure Seelster.
Scott McNiven trains the seven-year-old daughter of Classic Card Shark-Freedom Away, who upset to the tune of 7-1, for partners Kim McNiven and Thomas Brodhurst. The win was her eighth of the season and the 31st of her career. She’s put more than $380,000 on her card to date.
Dazzling Rockette used come-from-behind tactics to triumph for Team Hensley in the $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3.
War Filly fired to the front and chopped out fractions of :27.1, :57.1 and 1:25.4, but she couldn’t fend off the hard-driving Dazzling Rockette in the closing strides. Ed Hensley used a :29.3 closing panel with the seven-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Sweet Smilin Lady to post the half-length decision over War Filly in 1:55.4. Regal Luck was third.
Ed and Ashleigh Hensley own the mare who now owns a 7-1-3 record this season from 33 trips to the track. Ashleigh trains the 35-time winner who bumped her overall bankroll to $364,060 with the win.
